Man who fled ER after OD admits driving while high

BEVERLY ? A man desperate to get into a drug detox facility nearly died from an overdose of heroin, then after being saved with an antidote, bolted from the emergency room and led police on a chase through four North Shore communities, he admitted yesterday.

More people are dying from overdoses of prescription painkillers. Some Northwest hospitals say they're combating the problem by drastically reducing the amount of prescriptions they write for the medications.
